Membership

Membership in the University of Miami Law Review is limited to second- and third-year law students. There are two ways to become a member of the Law Review.

First, for Volume 78, rising second-year law students may grade-on to the Law Review by placing in the top five percent of their first-year class. More information regarding grading on to the Law Review can be found in the bylaws.

Second, rising second- and third-year law students may be invited to join the Law Review by competing in the Writing Competition. Rising 2L students who receive at 3.55 GPA and rising 3L students who receive at 3.67 GPA are eligible to participate in the Law Review Writing Competition for a position on the University of Miami Law Review.  More information regarding the Writing Competition can be found here.

All students interested in joining the Law Review must attend the University of Miami Law Review Symposium or other symposia hosted by a University of Miami law journal.

Orientation

All students offered candidacy for the University of Miami Law Review must complete an orientation. Please note that orientation for UMLR begins in the summer of the academic year prior to candidacy and will consist of three separate days and span across three weekends. Tentative dates for the Volume 78 orientation will be listed below as they become available. Please note that these dates are subject to change and will be finalized as the summer progresses. If you are offered candidacy and have a conflict with any of these dates, please advise the Editor-in-Chief immediately.

2023 Orientation Dates:

  • Administrative Orientation & JSE Social: Friday, August 18 at 4 p.m.
  • Printchair Orientation: Thursday, August 24 at 12:30 p.m.
  • Subcheck Orientation: Wednesday, September 6 at 12:30 p.m.
