Third-year University of Miami School of Law student and UMLR member Leah Weston was tapped today as a new inductee of Iron Arrow, the highest honor attainable at the University of Miami. Iron Arrow recognizes those individuals in the community who exemplify its tenets of love of alma mater, character, leadership, scholarship, and community. The society was founded in 1926 and boasts such members as Dexter Lehtinen, Florida Supreme Court Justice R. Fred Lewis, and Donna Shalala, among others.
Ms. Weston, born and raised in Miami, is a double ‘Cane who is tirelessly dedicated to the UM community and to the Miami community at large. She is both a Miami Scholar and a Harry Reid Scholar, and she is active in Miami Law organizations such as the Public Interest Leadership Board, the Society of Bar & Gavel, and the National Lawyers Guild. Ms. Weston also serves the community in groups like Emerge Miami, a social network of progressive Miamians who use bike rides and other community events to create social connections between other activists and organizations. Last summer, Ms. Weston worked with the Community Justice Project of Florida Legal Services, and more recently, she participated in a sit-in with the Dream Defenders to demand that Florida policymakers consider a series of proposals called the Trayvon Martin Civil Rights Act. In her spare time, Ms. Weston can also be heard as a radio personality on WVUM 90.5 FM, the Voice of the University of Miami.
We are very proud of Ms. Weston and congratulate her on her tapping.
